Apartment in Városmajor

A young couple approached us with the goal of creating their first home, and it was clear from the very beginning that they had a strong and conscious vision. They already had shared living experience in a previous apartment, which helped them feel that Geppetto’s design approach was the right fit for them. At the same time, they recognized that the scope of the project went beyond what they could manage alone—especially if they wanted a high-quality outcome and a smooth, problem-free execution.

They wanted to translate their desires into spaces, shapes, and materials with the help of professionals. In the video interview below, they share how successfully that vision came to life.

In their vision, they dreamed of a bright, welcoming apartment with a harmonious color palette—one that felt both extravagant and elegant, infused with the charm of classic bourgeois elements.

Due to the limitations of the site, natural light only moderately reached the rooms, so the first step was to eliminate the original maze-like layout. As the couple enjoys an active social life, the design had to accommodate gatherings—especially Friday night match viewings with 4 to 6 guests in the living room. When selecting upholstery fabrics, we had to take into account not only spilled drinks and scattered crumbs, but also the third member of the household: Flódni the dog.

Flóra uses the kitchen regularly, but for the sake of clarity and easy maintenance, she didn’t want small appliances cluttering the countertop. Instead, they have a dedicated, easily accessible pull-out counter hidden inside one of the cabinets—allowing everything to be neatly tucked away with a single motion.

One of the biggest challenges during the design process—apart from the lighting—was creating two separate home office corners in a way that wouldn’t interfere with each other’s work and wouldn’t make the living room feel like a dedicated office space.

The bedroom was designed solely as a place for rest, while clothing is stored in a large wardrobe located along the hallway. The bathroom was small, dark, and had a rather awkward trapezoid layout, so we used light-colored finishes to compensate for the lack of natural light and made the corners functional with built-in furniture. Since there wasn’t enough space to create a separate utility room, the mechanical systems and washing machine were integrated into one of the entryway closets.

“When the functions fell into place during the concept development, it was a joy to see how this small, once maze-like apartment—opened up and reimagined—adapted so well to Flóra and Kornél’s vision. They were fantastic clients: open-minded, with a great sense of aesthetics.”
